Last month we talked about fear, which lead us to focus, so that is where we will begin. Most of us know that when riding our horse, we must focus on what we are doing, and on what we are about to do. Once again, not on the horse, or on what the horse is doing, or what he might do. This causes our bodies to change a little, which becomes a cue to the horse. In time, this will be all the cue he needs. It also causes our brain waves to connect and believe it or not we are now communicating with each other. We think it, he does it. So how do we get this far? It starts on the way out to get our horse. We must know what we are going to do and how we are going to do it. If we know how, there will be no reason to change it. We must stay focused on the tasks. Remember when we change, the horse gets the idea that we don't know what the heck we are doing, and begins to lose faith in our ability to be his alpha. Anytime I do ground work with my horse, I am riding my horse. There are very few things that I do on the ground, that I won't do when I get on his back. When I do get on his back, he already knows what we are going to do. So focus, focus, focus on what you are doing. I mean everything! You will be amazed at what happens.
