Susan and Sequoia
I just wanted to update you on Sequoia and myself. We had an uneventful ride home. He wasn't even sweaty when I got here. I think all of the balking and pawing was possibly him saying he was MAXED out! It sure was a full day yesterday!
It was amazing! I must say! I was and am in total awe at how you worked with Sequoia and in such a short time had him doing those phenomenal things. He didn't know you!! Shoot...he's working on knowing me! But BANG...there it was.....he gave you the benefit of the doubt and you didn't fail him, so he trusted you.
And then I stepped in. As awkward as I was, he trusted and tried his best to do as I asked.
I have to say when I got home, my feelings for him and comfort level around him was changed....thoroughly! And his towards me too! We are at a whole new level and place and it's wonderful!
So today brought a new day. And rain... =0(
I just got in from doing my barn chores and workin with Sequoia. I couldn't wait to share with you what we did.
When I went out to the barn my husband, David, helped make me a short lead rope to help me with my homework. My kids, step-kids, and husband were all out doing various chores and such when I went to the the round pen. I went in and went right to work. I set my brain to think forward and off we went! I was tickled pink! I did ALL of what we worked on yesterday without any hesitation! ALL of it...even squaring up. No....that couldn't be right. So I did it again! No issues. OK...back has the head bobbing thing...but were working on that.
So being thrilled as I was...I called my husband over to show him what I learned. Being the 'green' horse lover and owner that he is, he came over to appease me. He doesn't understand half of what I do with them. I started going through the different things with Sequoia and finished with a square up. Then.....just for giggles....I dropped the lead and proceeded to do liberty work. Finishing with squaring up....AT LIBERTY!
I looked over, and my kids all joined Dave at the rail. The kids and Dave were all speechless and amazed!!! They couldn't believe (me either) that we just started learning this yesterday!!!
WOW!!!!
I stood there with Sequoia's head cradled in my arms and his eyes filled with love and comfort. I'm sure I looked the same way!
I am touched to the core!! I couldn't believe I could reach this level EVER, and here it is only day two!!
Bring on day three!! And beyond!!!
It can only get better!!!
