Dennis,
When I got home from you clinic on Saturday I decided to spend time just hanging out with Reno and loving on him…he’s not used to that. Yesterday was our first day of “working” together since he came home. I can honestly say I was SHOCKED at how he responded to your techniques!! After about 20 minutes of working together, honest to goodness, he was walking respectfully, stopping on a dime, backing mostly in a straight line and staying for a few minutes at a time!! THIS IS A HORSE THAT NEVER STOOD STILL!! At the end of a very relaxed and positive hour, he stopped just by hand signals (MOST of the time!) and backed without me saying a word. I was so amazed (and sure nobody who knew him would believe me) I had my son get the video camera to capture it all. Later, as I was standing there talking to my son and letting Reno graze, he began to playfully nibble on my whip…so I did as you taught…I turned it into a “skill.” After about 5 minutes of “playing” with it with him, I got him to pick it up several times by saying “pick it up.” Luckily my son started filming again when he saw what I was doing and got that on tape, too.
I can’t thank you enough for the skills (and confidence) I gained from your clinic. My friend who found Reno for me (and attended another clinic this weekend, and ended up near tears) and my sister-in-law (the horse trainer) both want to come to your next clinic!! They know Reno best and when I told them what he could do using the skills/tools you taught me, they decided they had to come and see what this is all about J.
I am eternally grateful that you have helped Reno and I get started in the BEST way possible. We look forward to coming to a clinic soon…I just bought him some new “wheels” today so we can get wherever we need/want to go.
God Bless, Cami |
